UGC approves new regulations for technical, distance education

University Grants Commission, the regulatory body for higher education in India, has passed two regulations regarding distance and technical education in the country in its meeting that was held on Friday.
As per reports, UGC has empowered universities of the concerned states to grant approval and recognition to technical colleges which includes colleges offering engineering programs and now universities have been vested with the power to regulate, inspect and screen proposals of before granting approval to new technical colleges.
While in case of universities offering distance education, such universities will have to seek permission of UGC for offering diploma/degrees through distance education programs.
