Hariman Sharma from Bilaspur Honored with the Mahindra Samriddhi India Agri Award 2018

The award recognizes Hariman’s contributions towards developing an evolved and high-heat withstanding variety of apples

Mahindra & Mahindra’s Farm Equipment Sector, India’s leading tractor manufacturer, recently announced the winners of the Mahindra Samriddhi India Agri Awards (MSIAA) 2018.

Hariman Sharma, President of the Apple Production Committee and a member of the Technical Group Scale of Finance, Bilaspur was awarded the acclaimed Mahindra Samriddhi Krishi Samrat Samman(Farmer of the Year Award – Male) in the category of less than 5 acres land holding.

Hariman Sharma was recognized for his innovative and purposeful contributions towards developing an evolved apple variety of ‘HRMN-99’. This line of apples possesses the unique quality of being cultivable in temperatures of up to 48° C across 29 states in India. With its ability to withstand high temperatures, the yield of this variety of apples has increased from 4000 kg/ acre to 5000 kg/ acre. This has led to a significant increase in demand for these apple seedlings translating into higher productivity as well as enhanced incomes amongst the farmer community.
